Best Wedding Photo Locations in Croydon and South London
By John Roberto · 13 June 2026 · 6 min read

South London doesn't get the credit it deserves as a wedding backdrop. Couples assume they need to head into central London, or out to the Surrey countryside, for good photographs, when some of the best light and greenery in the city is on their doorstep. As photographers based here, these are the spots we return to again and again with couples marrying in and around Croydon.
One note before the list: the best location is always the one that fits your timeline. A spot ten minutes from your venue beats a “perfect” one that costs you an hour of your own wedding. That's the documentary mindset: the photos should serve the day, not the other way round.
In Croydon
Coombe Wood Gardens
Probably the borough's best-kept secret for couple portraits: formal gardens, woodland paths, a pond and proper seasonal colour. It photographs beautifully in every season: wisteria and blossom in spring, deep greens in summer, golden woodland in autumn.
Addington Hills
The viewing platform looks out over the whole of London, and on a clear evening you can see the skyline glowing at golden hour. Worth the short walk from the car park for couples who want something dramatic without leaving the borough.
Lloyd Park
Wide open green space, mature trees and long sight-lines, ideal for relaxed walking shots and big-sky photographs. It's minutes from central Croydon, which makes it a natural stop after a register office ceremony.
Wandle Park
Compact, pretty and right by the tram. The practical choice when your timeline is tight. The bandstand and the river path give you variety within a five-minute stroll.
Central Croydon itself
Don't rule out the streets. Victorian civic buildings around Katharine Street, colourful street art in the town centre, and the contrast of old and new make for photographs with real character, especially for couples who'd rather feel like themselves on a street than pose in a rose garden.
Wider South London
Crystal Palace Park
Terraces, sphinxes, the famous dinosaurs and huge skies. It brings a sense of scale and a bit of playfulness, and couples always end up laughing somewhere around the dinosaurs, and those are the photos they choose for the wall.
Beddington Park
Just over the border near Wallington: a historic deer-park landscape with avenues of trees, a church and the River Wandle running through. Feels like the countryside without leaving the A232.
Dulwich Park & Dulwich Village
Manicured park on one side, one of London's prettiest village streets on the other. Georgian houses, white picket details and soft greenery, a gift in late afternoon light.
Greenwich Park
A little further east, but if your venue is anywhere nearby, the view from the Observatory across the river is one of the great London backdrops: city skyline, royal park and golden hour in one frame.
A local photographer's practical tips
- Think in light, not landmarks. An ordinary tree-lined street at 7pm beats a famous viewpoint at noon. We plan portrait time around the light on your specific date.
- Have a rain alternative. Every location above has nearby cover, and some of our favourite photographs happen under umbrellas anyway.
- Keep it to one stop. One well-chosen location for 15–20 minutes gives you more good photographs than three rushed ones.
- Local knowledge is free. If you book us, suggesting the right spot for your venue and season is part of the job. See our Croydon wedding photography page for how we work locally.
