The approach
Ninety percent unposed. Ten percent gently steered.
Most of a wedding day is not posed, so most of its photography should not be either: the nerves while getting ready, the face your dad pulls in the speeches, the friends crying at the back of the ceremony. John works close enough to catch those moments and quietly enough that you forget he is there.
Direction is saved for the ten percent where it genuinely earns its place: family groups, done in minutes, and two short portrait walks in the best light of the day. The day, as it actually happened
Planning
A day that photographs beautifully.
After years of London weddings, this is the shape we suggest to every couple. Steal it for your planning even if you never book us.
90 min before
Preparations
Details first (the dress, rings, flowers, buttonholes), then the room as it fills with people. The last half hour before you leave is the best candid photography of the whole morning, so protect it from jobs and errands.
20 to 40 min
The ceremony
Registry ceremonies often run closer to twenty minutes, church services longer. Positions are chosen before you walk in, and there is no flash and no interrupting. The real thing, photographed as it happens.
Straight after
Confetti
Do it immediately, while everyone is still in one place. Big natural petals, plenty of them, thrown high, and walk slowly. Planned like this, it is usually the most joyful frame of the day.
About 20 min
Family groups
Six combinations is the sweet spot, roughly three minutes each while the drinks flow. We agree the list before the day, and a helpful usher rounds people up so nobody spends the reception hunting for an uncle.
Two 15 min slots
Couple portraits
Better split in two than taken in one long block: a short walk soon after the ceremony, then ten minutes in the last hour of daylight, which is quietly the best light your wedding will ever have.
Evening
Speeches and the first dance
In position before the first glass clinks, because the best speech photographs are the reactions, not the speaker. Then the first dance, and fifteen minutes more once the floor properly fills.
