Southwark Register Office Weddings: A Photographer’s Guide
By John Roberto · 3 July 2026 · 6 min read

Southwark Register Office lives in Camberwell House, a Grade II listed Georgian building dating back to the 1790s, and it holds a quiet advantage almost no other London register office can match: its own private garden. For couples in South London who want somewhere with genuine character and a green backdrop built in, it is a lovely, under-sung choice. Here is a photographer's guide.
The rooms, and that garden
- The Garden Room seats up to thirty five and opens onto the private garden. It runs Thursday to Saturday and allows the full personalised ceremony: your own vows, readings and music. This is the room to book if you can.
- The Register Office room hosts the simple statutory ceremony on Mondays: the two of you and two witnesses in an intimate Georgian room with an ornate fireplace. If you are eloping, this is one of the most charming ways to do it in London.
Either way the format is the register office one: short, sincere and over before the nerves are. My guide to registry office weddings in London explains how I photograph that half hour without stage-managing it.
How it photographs
Georgian buildings were designed around daylight, and Camberwell House kept its proportions: sash windows, high ceilings, rooms that breathe. The garden is the gift. Most London register office couples have to walk or drive somewhere for greenery; here the confetti, the hugs and the first portraits happen in your own private green space the moment the ceremony ends. On a soft day it is as good as any country house lawn.
Afterwards: Camberwell and beyond
Camberwell Green is a short stroll for something leafy and local, and Burgess Park's long avenues and lake are a few minutes away for bigger, airier frames. Head slightly further and Peckham Rye gives you meadows and evening light. South London does relaxed portraits better than anywhere, and because this is the corner of the city we live and work in, we know exactly where the light will be.
Marrying here
Southwark Register Office suits couples who want their wedding personal, green and genuinely theirs. The Ceremony collection covers London register office weddings from £300, with Essentials and Signature for days that carry on, and every collection is listed openly here.
